"When you connect to the heart of a child anything is possible"

- Dr. Karen Purvis

A Bit About Me

I believe healing happens in connection—and sometimes, the most powerful healing happens through play.

I walk alongside children, teens, adults, and families who are navigating life’s hardest experiences—whether that’s adoption or foster care, the impact of abuse, family changes like divorce or separation, or the big emotions that come with trauma and stress. I have a special passion for supporting little ones ages 0–5, while also helping parents and caregivers strengthen relationships and find new ways to connect.

My approach is gentle, creative, and body-based. Through my three-year Somatic Experiencing certification program, I’ve learned how to help people’s nervous systems find safety and resilience again. In our work together, I’ll invite you (or your child) to explore healing through play, connection, and somatic awareness—always at a pace that feels right for you.

I also work closely with my colleague, Whitney Berg, to support families in a collaborative way. Together, we focus on whole-family healing—creating space for every member of the family system to be seen, heard, and supported in their unique journey.

Beyond my therapy practice, I share what I’ve learned through trainings and workshops on trauma, brain development, ACEs, and caregiver support through MN Adopt and various other platforms. Teaching and supporting others in this way is another way I hope to spread understanding, compassion, and hope.

Most of all, I want you to know: you don’t have to go through this alone. My hope is to offer a space where every part of you—or your family—feels seen, supported, and empowered to heal.

Trainings

Bre loves connecting with others through honest conversation and shared experience. As someone who was adopted and has walked through her own journey of trauma and healing, she brings both heart and insight to her work. Bre uses her story, along with her education, to help foster parents better understand the effects of trauma and how to support children with compassion. She works with Foster Adopt MN and also offers trainings and talks on her own. Bre and Whitney enjoy teaming up to present together and bring real-life perspective to their sessions. Bre is available for future events and bookings and looks forward to working alongside you to support and strengthen families and communities.

Education

2019-2021

Masters of Social Work

Simmons School of Social Work

Completed my Master’s at Simmons School of Social Work with a focus on attachment and trauma strengthened my understanding of how early experiences shape relationships and overall well-being. I gained practical, research-based tools to help individuals and families heal from trauma, guided by professors who are deeply invested in students’ growth. This training prepared me to provide compassionate, informed support to those navigating life’s most challenging experiences.

2009-2013

Liberal Arts for the Human Services
University of Minnesota Morris

At the University of Minnesota Morris, studying Human Services through a liberal arts lens taught me how to support people and communities with empathy and understanding. I learned how relationships, social systems, and personal stories shape lives — and how thoughtful care can make a real difference. Like Timshel — “thou mayest” — this program reminds us that we have the power to choose compassion, listen deeply, and use our skills to serve others in meaningful ways.
